TEASER: THE LONE HEART OF BARNABY COLE, PAGE 1
May 15, 2009Through the years John Epstein wrote and drew the adventures of Barnaby Cole, cursed avenger of the Wild West. Now, with his personal saga coming to an end, Epstein must go to the gunman’s resting place and, finally, return his heart.
These are the synopsis and first page of the beautiful, poignant story written by André Dantas, pencilled and finished by Milton Sobreiro and lettered by his son, Felipe Sobreiro. if you look closely at Epstein you might recognize a certain comic legend he might have been based upon. Or two.
The homage to Comics’ greatests and their pulp creations - and creators in general - was one of the reasons this story hit us right in the stomach. The other being that Milton Sobreiro, a relatively newcomer to Comics but an illustration veteran and personal legend to us, had agreed to do the art on this.
And then our minds were blown by how fast the first INKSHOT tale was done from square one to finish line: on Jan 3 Dantas sent the short synopsis you read above and it was immediately approved by us. On Jan 15 the full script was delivered. Around Jan 29 the first finished page arrived in my inbox and finally on Feb 9 [!] the final 5th page came through.
Every page the we opened it was like a jab in our chins, and the chins were hitting the floor every time. And we were so happy for that. Hopefully, you will too. In the meantime, check Milton’s work in EMPIRE OF THE ANTS, a short for Boom Studios’ CTHULHU TALES # 11 and many others he did for that publisher. Also the CURSED PLANET proposal that unfortunately lost the Zuda Competition last year.
